Barbados will host the 8th Annual African Diaspora
Heritage Trail (ADHT) conference here next month.
According to the organisers the conference is aimed at
establishing heritage traces which link Diaspora traditions in Africa, North
America, South America, the Caribbean and Europe.
Other purposes of the conference include tracing
authentic local culture back to the period of African slavery, the publishing
of Tourism management guide which will help to expand cultural heritage market
and development of partner networks aimed at promoting cultural heritage
destinations.
The conference will hold on September 17 – 19 and will
be attended by approximately 400 members of African Diaspora under the theme
“Our Freedom, Our Identity: Uncover, Recover, Discover.”
Valerie Marshall, of the Barbados Tourism Authority
(BTA) said “Barbados, in particular,
should benefit tremendously from hosting this conference. Apart from providing
hospitality for around 400 extra people on the land, the islanders will also
receive aid in developing a strong cultural heritage component for its tourism,
aimed especially at attracting visitors from within the Diaspora. This could in
turn result in mutually beneficial business relationships.”
