Vindalee Smith |
Under normal circumstances, Jamaican-born
Vindalee Smith would have been making last minute preparations for her wedding
at the New Dimension Seventh-day Adventist Church in East Flatbush.
Instead, the bride-to-be was viciously
stabbed to death in her Brooklyn, New York apartment one day before the
wedding.
Smith, 38, was eight months pregnant and due to be married on Sunday, the New York Post reported.
Police said that Smith, just two weeks away from giving birth, was discovered on Saturday on the floor of her home with a knife wound to her neck.
Her almost full-term baby boy did not survive the deadly attack.
According to the police, there was no sign of forced entry, and no weapon was discovered in the basement apartment where Smith, a mother of four, lived alone. Her body was found by her landlord.
Smith's fiancé is reportedly assisting police with their investigations.
Pastor Ferron Francis of the New Dimension Seventh-day Adventist Church, where Smith was expected to exchange vows, told reporters that Smith was unemployed and struggled financially.
Francis said that her children, two boys and two girls in their late teens and early 20s, stayed with friends.
"She had a very positive outlook on life in spite of the many financial struggles she was having," the pastor said.
He disclosed that Smith had been involved in a simmering feud with a former neighbour, who accused her of letting his dog out of the building.
"A man accused her of being irresponsible and threatened to kill her and her family, but that was months ago,"
