Nelson Mandela Convalsces at Home

ormer South African President Nelson Mandela was released from the hospital on the Boxing day after 18 days of treatment for lung infection and gallstones.

President Jacob Zuma`s spokesman, Mac Maharaj said in a statement that his doctors decided to discharge him because he was making "steady progress" over past few days.

The 94-year-old while at home would be taking care of by his own medical team since he is yet to recover fully.

The anti-apartheid leader has had recurring lung problems since contracting tuberclosis during his 27 years imprisonment by the apartheid regime.

The Nobel Laureate had planned to spend the Christmas with his family at his ancestral home in Qunu in the Eastern Cape but he was on December 8 flown to a hospital in Pretoria.
