Oprah Winfrey Network, named after
its chief executive is undergoing structural adjustment. The cable network has
been troubled since it began operations in January 2011. Discovery channel
bankrolled OWN with over $ 312 million.
The overhaul had 20 percent staff laid
off . The management of the Network made known it has sacked 30 staffers. Neal
Kirsch, the chief financial officer from Discovery has taken over as chief
operating officer and chief financial officer at OWN.
The arrangement will have Oprah who is the chairman and chief executive of OWN share power with top executive of the Discovery Channel. While Discovery Channel owns 50 percent of OWN, The talk queen through Harpo is in charge of programming, marketing, decision-making for key management positions.
Opera took over full control of OWN after ending her day time television programme, “The Operah Winfrey Show,” which she successfully hosted for 25 years. The show was American longest-running television talk show and the first show was aired in september 8, 1986 and ran for 25 seasons. The programme was concluded on may 25, 2011.
