President Robert Mugabe |
A group of
Zimbabwean legislators had themselves circumcised in a tent in Parliament House
some weeks ago to set a good example.
More than 100
legislators and staff had themselves tested for HIV in the Parliament building.
The tests came in the wake of research finding in africa which shows that
circumcision reduces the chance of a man being infected with HIV from a
hetrosexual act by 60 percent.
President Robert
Mugabe recently spoke about his concern that some of his political allies were
dying of AIDS and urged them to get themselves tested in order to reduce the
stigma.
Blessing Chebundo
is the first liegislator to be circumcised. He said after the operation that he
was “a bit scared, but after they had
explained the process, I felt at ease.”
According to
United Nations about 14 percent of adults in Zimbabwe are infected as against
27 percent in 1997.
My Take:
I pray this study actually took place and not one of superstition. Even at that Circumcision is not enough. enlightement on the benefits of the use of condom should be intensified and of being faithful to their wives.
Do you believe this study?
