Swiss Govt Gives Repatriated Nigerians Aid

Nigerians residing illegally in Switzerland are being encouraged to return home under the Voluntary Return Programme of Swiss Department of Migration.

Andre Kunzi, an official of the Switzerland Federal Office for Migration revealed this while on a courtesy call on the Chairperson of the House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

According to the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Hans-Rudolf Hodel,  the programme was introduced for Nigerian immigrants in Switzerland whose papers had expired and risked of deportation.

Mr Hodel further explained that each of those affected was given between one and six thousand Swiss Francs to begin a small business when they returned to Nigeria.  In addition the returnees participated in skills acquition programmes before their return.

The programme had been in place since 2005.
