The Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan is visiting Germany for three
days. He arrived on Thursday, 19.
He called on the German government to help his government tackle the
security problem boardering on Boko Haram in Nigeria. He stated that Nigeria
needs help in the area of technology to help bring the terrorist group under
control.
He assured the investors that Nigerian governmnent is doing everything
in its power to ensure safety of the the investors and their investments. He
acknowledged that the Nigerian security establishment was not prepared for Boko
Haram and thereby asked for help in the areas of training, security
architecture and provision of modern equipments.
He said "As a nation, we have security challenges because most investors talk about security. At present, we have the local terrorist group code named Boko Haram. From publications on this terrorist group, it paints a very gloomy picture as if the whole country is in tatters. These terrorists operate in some states in the north east part of the country but go into other states from time to time. But what I can assure the global community, especially our investors from Germany, is that government is working very hard to bring it under control."
The german Chancellor, Dr. Angela Merkel responded in the affirmative, promising that the German government is determined to work together with Nigerian government to tackle the Boko Haram.
She disclosed that the bilateral commission between German and Nigeria will look into the issue with the aim of finding out the areas in which Nigeria could be helped.
Adding "I think what is most important is the resolve of the Nigerian government to deal with such a group and to remain on top of the situation and protect the peace loving people of Nigeria who suffer most from such attacks."
How come Nigerians resident in Germany were not informed of their president’s visit?
Only a handful of individuals were in the knowledge of this visit. I must register my dissactifaction with the Nigerian embassy for not informing us about the president’s visit. I think every nigerian has the right to information affecting Nigeria. All Nigerians irrespective of status and tribe and whatever has the right to be informed about this visit Informing a very few people is inappropriate.
Many people wrote me, complaining that they were not informed about the President Jonathan visit. I was not aware of it I would have informed you right away. And would have been in Berlin to get a first hand information and interview.
In view of this I wrote a letter to the Nigerian high Commission in Berlin asking for explaination. I will keep you posted immediately I get a reply.
Were you in any way informed about the president’s visit? If yes, who informed you?
